What to expect at Ducklings

CreativitySettling in

We want to make the settling in for your child as smooth as possible. Our staff will work with you to find out what will suit your child and then decide on the best way to help them to feel happy and safe with us.

Clothing

We provide protective clothing for the children when they play with messy activities. We encourage children to gain the skills that help them to be independent and look after themselves. These include taking themselves to the toilet and taking off, and putting on, outdoor clothes. Clothing that is easy for them to manage will help them to do this.

We encourage children in our care to wear a Ducklings Nursery uniform. The initial polo top is provided as part of the registration pack, and further t-shirts are available to purchase when your child needs a larger size.

Learning journals

We keep a learning journal (record of achievement) for each child. Staff and parents working together on their children's records of achievement is one of the ways in which the carers and parents work in together to give your child all the help they need to make progress.

Through the ParentZone app, busy parents can log in and view their child's daily activities at a convenient time.

Parents can contribute to their child's learning journey, make
notes for their key person and strengthen the bond with the
staff and nursery. Find out more about ParentZone or
download the ParentZone app.

Creative-thinking
Assessment

We continually assess how the children are learning and developing by observing them frequently, particularly at times of transition between groups or when they are preparing to go on to school. These then form part of children’s records of achievement.

Creative-childrenParents' involvement

Parents are included and consulted at all levels and you can get involved as much or as little as you want to by:
  • Telling us about your children's needs, activities, interests and progress
  • Helping at sessions
  • Sharing your own special interests with the children
  • Taking part in discussions about the activities and curriculum
  • Developing friendships with other parents

Key workers

Each member of staff has a group of children for whom they are responsible. Your child's Key person will work with you to make sure your child's particular needs and interests are met. They will help your child to settle in and make sure they get the most out of their time at Ducklings.
